Burrell's cause of death is defined as "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine."

Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are reportedly antihistamines, whereas ethanol is an element found in alcoholic beverages. As for amphetamine, it is commonly used to treat ADHD.

The chef passed away on June 17, 2025, at the age of 55. Her loved ones revealed the devastating news in a statement but didn't mention the manner of her death.

Meanwhile, a New York Police Department spokesman divulged that medics responded to a 911 call at Burrell's residence, where they discovered her "unconscious and unresponsive" and declared her dead at the scene. The television personality was found in the shower, surrounded by approximately 100 assorted pills.

Burrell was best known for her appearances on the Food Network, where she started as a sous chef, working under chef Mario Batali on "Iron Chef America." She later landed her cooking show, "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," which premiered in 2008 and aired for nine seasons.

Even though it ended, the New Yorker remained a staple in the network and went on to appear on "Worst Cooks in America," "Chopped," and "Food Network Star."
