English Soccer Player George Baldock's Official Cause of Death Revealed Nearly a Year After His Passing
The professional footballer, who played for Sheffield United and represented the Greek national team, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at his home months ago.
George Baldock's official cause of death was reportedly ruled as drowning during an inquest on July 23, 2025, at Milton Keynes Coroners Court in England. It was also determined to be accidental.
Documents obtained by People revealed, "A post mortem examination confirmed that there were no drugs or alcohol in his system and that he had a very large heart that would have meant that he was susceptible to heart arrhythmias."
The Mayo Clinic describes heart arrhythmias as irregular heartbeats. They are caused when "the electrical signals that tell the heart to beat don't work properly. The heart may beat too fast or too slow. Or the pattern of the heartbeat may be inconsistent."
According to the reports, attempts to resuscitate Baldcock were unsuccessful. The soccer player, who played for Sheffield United and Milton Keynes, was found dead in a swimming pool at his house in Athens, Greece, on October 9, 2024.
The authorities launched an investigation into his death on October 22 of that same year. This was followed by an inquest in April 2025. Baldock was 31 years old.
