Prince Harry and King Charles III have quietly taken a step toward repairing their strained relationship, sharing their first in-person meeting in nearly two years.

After nearly two years without seeing each other, Prince Harry finally sat down with his father, King Charles III, for a private meeting in London on September 10, 2025. The Duke of Sussex, who has been open about his wish to rebuild ties with his family, met the King for tea at Clarence House – a reunion that quickly drew international attention.

The gathering had reportedly been on the cards for some time, with both sides leaving space in their diaries but remaining tight-lipped on whether it would go ahead. Confirmation only came once Harry's car was seen leaving Clarence House, just under an hour after he was spotted arriving.

The King made time for the meeting in between a full slate of official duties, including an investiture ceremony for Holocaust survivor Manfred Goldberg and an audience with South Australia's premier, Peter Malinauskas. Charles had returned from Balmoral earlier in the day to attend a meeting of the Privy Council at St James's Palace.

While Harry was able to reconnect with his father, his relationship with his brother, the Prince of Wales, remains strained. William, who has not been in contact with Harry for over two years, was in Wales on royal engagements at the same time.

Harry's visit to London was tightly scheduled. That morning, he attended a quarterly meeting with representatives from his UK-based charities before visiting Imperial College London's Centre for Blast Injury Studies.

There, he announced a $500,000 (£370,000) contribution from his Archewell Foundation to initiatives helping children injured in Gaza and Ukraine, including evacuation efforts coordinated with the World Health Organization and projects developing advanced prosthetics.

Later in the day, following his tea with the King, Harry arrived, slightly delayed, at a reception at the Gherkin for backers of the Invictus Games Foundation. When asked about his father's wellbeing, he smiled and said simply, "Yes, he's great, thank you."

According to sources, the meeting with the King was prompted by a handwritten letter Harry sent earlier this year, expressing a desire to reconnect. The encounter, described as "positive and very relaxed," reportedly included candid conversations about family life, Charles's health, and Harry's children, Archie and Lilibet. Insiders say the emotional reunion involved hugs and even tears.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have lived in California since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. The distance, combined with Harry's high-profile interviews and his memoir "Spare," has contributed to the rift with his family. But last week's meeting suggests there may still be room for reconciliation between father and son.
