Prince George ‘Almost as Tall’ as Mum Kate Middleton in Rare Joint Royal Engagement

The mother-son duo visited Royal Air Force Coningsby over the weekend, honoring military personnel and exploring historic aircraft. Meanwhile, fans couldn't stop talking about one thing: just how tall George has gotten.

Prince George, 12, looked every inch the young royal as he joined his mother Princess Catherine for a rare joint engagement this past weekend. The pair stepped out together for the UK's Armed Forces Day, visiting Royal Air Force Coningsby.

The Princess of Wales shared a video on Saturday, June 27, showing the two of them honoring the occasion — chatting with military personnel and taking turns in the cockpits of various historic aircraft during their visit to the RAF base.

The pair arrived in complementary, polished style. George cut a sharp figure in a black blazer over a light blue dress shirt, left open at the collar, paired with slim dark navy trousers and brown suede loafers.

Beside him, Catherine wore a grey plaid double-breasted blazer in a houndstooth-style check, layered over a fitted white top, slim-cut black trousers, and brown leather loafers. Her dark hair fell in loose, natural waves, while her look was finished with small earrings.

In the caption, the Princess wrote:

The post drew an overwhelmingly warm response — though many fans found themselves distracted by just how much George has grown. At 12, he's already only a few inches shy of matching his mother in height.

The outing comes as George prepares to begin at Eton College this fall — following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, who graduated from the prestigious institution in June 2000.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith has noted that "Eton was a much-needed haven for William," adding that "it will give George a rigorous education that he will need for his role."

William, 44, and Catherine,44, have long worked to give their three children — George, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8 — grounded, relatively private upbringings, relocating from London to Windsor and largely shielding them from the public eye. But the pull of family tradition proved strong.

A source close to the family has said that "George has always wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps" — a sentiment that ultimately shaped the decision to enroll him at a school carrying both royal history and deep personal meaning for the Wales family.
