The "Parks and Recreation" alum's path to motherhood arrives after a year marked by profound loss. Plaza's low-key outing offers the first glimpse of her life as a parent, following a pregnancy she kept largely under wraps.

Aubrey Plaza is officially a mom! The "Parks and Recreation" alum, 42, quietly welcomed her first child with her partner, Christopher Abbott, 40. The news arrives just months after Plaza first debuted her baby bump back in April.

In photos obtained by TMZ, Plaza was spotted on Sunday, August 9, cradling her newborn while out and about in New York City after catching Abbott's final performance in Broadway's "Death of a Salesman."

The "White Lotus" star opted for a relaxed look for the outing, pairing a black tank top with cuffed blue jeans. She finished off the ensemble with dark sunglasses and black slide sandals, wearing her hair swept back into a ponytail.

Sources close to the situation told TMZ that the new mom is now doting on a baby girl, welcomed during the final week of July. People was the first outlet to break the news of Plaza's pregnancy, breaking the story just a day before she showed off her bump publicly.

"They feel very blessed," a source told People at the time, describing the pregnancy as "a beautiful surprise after an emotional year."

That emotional weight traces back to January 2025, when Plaza lost her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, to suicide. The pair had been separated for four months at the time of the filmmaker's death. He was 47.

"This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time," Plaza said in a joint statement with Baena's family at the time.

Baena was discovered unresponsive by an assistant inside his home in the Los Angeles area. Police arrived at the scene around 10:30 a.m. local time and pronounced him dead shortly after.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that the director had taken his own life, though details on the method were not disclosed. His cause of death was later verified through records from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office, obtained by Page Six.

Plaza and Baena had been together for more than a decade before secretly tying the knot in 2020, exchanging vows in tie-dye pajamas. They didn't share the news publicly until May 2021.

Months after Baena's passing, Plaza opened up for the first time about navigating her grief on Amy Poehler's "Good Hang" podcast. "Right in this very very present moment, I feel happy to be with you," she shared. "Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning."

She went on to describe herself as "very grateful to be moving through the world" and said she felt "OK" overall. Plaza then likened her mourning process to the movie "The Gorge," which centers on two snipers guarding a mysterious chasm without knowing what lies within.

"That's what my grief feels like or what grief could be like," she explained. "At all times, there's, like, a giant ocean of just awfulness that's just right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it and be in it. And sometimes I look at it and sometimes I just try to get away from it, but it's always there."

It remains unclear exactly when Plaza and Abbott's romance began, though the two have crossed paths professionally before — starring together in the film "Black Bear" and the Off-Broadway production of "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" in 2020 and 2023, respectively.
