More than a year after the actor's sudden death, the fallout over his finances has spilled into a courtroom battle between two of the people who loved him most.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner's loved ones are locked in a legal dispute over his estate one year after his passing. The "Cosby Show" star's widow, Tenisha Warner, has filed a $1.2 million lawsuit against his mother, Pamela Warner.

Tenisha is pursuing what she describes as unpaid obligations under her premarital agreement with Malcolm, along with attorney's fees and a court order blocking Pamela from distributing any money or property tied to the Warner Family Trust, which Malcolm established in 1996.

In documents filed Friday, July 17, and obtained by E! News, Tenisha alleges that Malcolm never fulfilled several commitments laid out in their premarital agreement before his death in 2025.

She "believes that Malcolm did not purchase or maintain any life insurance policy on his life" naming her as the sole beneficiary — something the actor had reportedly pledged to do in a prenup ahead of their 2017 wedding.

The 48-year-old further claims that Malcolm never paid her a monthly salary for serving as his chief of staff, never funded a Roth IRA on her behalf, and never provided the tax-free $16,000 sum he allegedly promised on each wedding anniversary, as outlined in their agreement.

Tenisha also stated in her filing that she and the couple's nine-year-old daughter, MacKenzie, currently have no access to the Warner Family Trust, which remains under Pamela's control.

According to the complaint, Pamela "intends to keep Malcolm's 1996 Trust assets to the detriment of his minor child and widow."

"To make matters worse, Pamela is the trustee of Malcolm's 1996 Trust and has used that position of power to sell Malcolm, Tenisha, and MacKenzie's first family home in Studio City, California," the suit alleges.

"Tenisha tried to preserve the home, but Pamela listed it for sale over Tenisha's objection and accepted the first offer she could without any notice to the family."

In a statement to E! on July 21, Tenisha stressed that Malcolm had always intended to provide for her and their daughter, even after his death.

"He was close to finalizing a new estate plan to replace the stale plan created in 1996 when he was 26 years old, 20 years before we met and well before we gave birth to our beautiful daughter," she continued.

Unfortunately, the "Malcolm and Eddie" alum died before he could complete the update.

"I have been struggling to care for our daughter as a single mom and now as her sole provider," she added. "Legally, I had no choice but to take action to protect our rights before any potential statute of limitations expired."

Earlier this week, Tenisha sat down for an emotional conversation with "CBS Mornings" co-anchor Gayle King, which aired Thursday, July 23.

During the interview, she reflected on the loss of her husband, who drowned accidentally while on a family vacation in Costa Rica on July 20, 2025. He was 54.

"I think the hardest thing about grief is that people, they move on," she said. "But for us, for his wife and child, there's no moving on. There's moving with and living with."

Growing visibly emotional, Tenisha added, "There's not a moment in my day that I'm not affected."
