Lady Gaga Stuns in a Marc Jacobs Ruffled Dress at the 2025 VMAs

Lady Gaga had a packed schedule on Sunday night, but the decorated singer made it work. Gaga stepped out at MTV's 2025 Video Music Awards (VMAs) on September 7, where she was honored with the Artist of the Year Award.

For her brief appearance, the 39-year-old wore a voluminous Marc Jacobs black gown covered in cascading ruffles that created sculptural dimension from head to toe, with hints of deep purple peeking through the layers.

She paired the avant-garde dress with bold gothic glam styling — including jet-black nails, striking crimson lipstick, and a floral headpiece of dark red blooms that crowned her updo. Gaga didn't walk the red carpet but she did accept her VMA, which was presented by Lenny Kravitz.

The visibly emotional artist — who was nominated in 12 categories — gave an impassioned speech, sharing her dedication to her craft. "I cannot begin to tell you what this means to me," she told the cheering crowd.

At the end of her speech, Gaga shared that she wished she could stay for the ceremony and the "amazing performances," but needed to head to Madison Square Garden for her concert. The singer is currently touring to promote her new album, "Mayhem," which she released in March.

"Mayhem" was also nominated for Best Album at the VMAs. Although Gaga left the awards show early, the audience still got to enjoy her pre-taped performance, which was filmed during her show on Saturday, September 6, at Madison Square Garden.

In addition to Artist of the Year, Gaga took home the VMA for Best Collaboration with Bruno Mars for their song, "Die With A Smile." She also won Best Direction and Best Art Direction for her "Abracadabra" music video.
