Rumer Willis Moves From Hometown Idaho to Nashville After Securing Primary Physical Custody of Daughter Lou
Rumer Willis is once again uprooting her life, this time swapping mountain views for country music's capital. The actress shared the news with fans just as a new chapter in her custody arrangement with ex Derek Richard Thomas gets underway.
Rumer Willis, 37, is starting afresh. The "House Bunny" actress revealed on Instagram that she is trading the Idaho mountains for Nashville, Tennessee, alongside her three-year-old daughter, Louetta.

In a video posted on August 12, Willis said she was taking "a leap of faith" by moving 2,000 miles across the country. The clip showed employees of Roadway Moving helping pack and ship her belongings to her new home.
"New chapter, officially delivered," she wrote. Willis' announcement arrives two months after she was awarded primary physical custody of Louetta, whom she shares with ex Derek Richard Thomas.
The former couple will share joint legal custody, and both will undergo a custody evaluation, according to a filing obtained by People back in June. The ruling also laid out a visitation schedule for Thomas, who was granted parenting time every other weekend beginning June 20.
The handoff location would alternate between Los Angeles and Idaho, where Willis grew up alongside sisters Tallulah and Scout, and had relocated following her split from the musician.

The filing states that the visits would initially be supervised by one of Willis' nannies before shifting to unmonitored overnight stays in August. Willis and Thomas have also been ordered to attend co-parenting counseling and to communicate through a co-parenting app.
The custody dispute between Willis and Thomas began in July 2025, when Thomas filed for child custody and visitation. At the time, he asked the court to grant both parties joint legal and physical custody, with him receiving custody for one week each month in California, building toward a 50/50 split.

Months later, in a January 21 response to Thomas' request, Willis alleged that her ex had "traumatized" their daughter by "inflicting insane emotional abuse" on her "for sometimes up to six hours at a time often for hours while Louetta was awake and present and crying."
"He often did this in the car with Louetta and I trapped in the vehicle where we could not get away from him," she wrote in the responsive declaration to request for order, adding that she was concerned about Thomas' "ability to be responsible with Louetta and to keep her safe and well cared for."

Thomas, 33, later argued that the central conflict stemmed from Willis' permanent move from California to Sun Valley, Idaho, with Louetta.
The singer accused Willis of trying to "compromise if not totally obliterate" his relationship with their daughter, while Willis maintained that the move had been made with Thomas' blessing.
Willis confirmed her split from Thomas in August 2024. The pair had been together since 2022 and announced that December that they were expecting their first child together. They welcomed their daughter in April 2023.
In a January 2025, Willis reflected on her move to Idaho from the Los Angeles house she had called home for nearly 14 years.
"I've been ready for a new adventure and a new place for years, but for reasons only the universe knows, this house wasn't ready to be done with me," she wrote in the caption.
"And now, it feels like the house is finally ready to let me go. So, with the deepest love and gratitude, Lou and I say goodbye to Casablanca and LA and set off for a new adventure."
