Brandon Blackstock’s Death Certificate Reveals New Details About His Health

The talent manager passed away last week following a years-long battle with cancer. His cause of death was revealed shortly after; however, new contributing factors to his demise have come to light.

Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson's former husband, died on the morning of Thursday, August 7, 2025, at his home in Montana. The rodeo producer had been battling malignant melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. He was 48.

Shortly after his passing, his cause of death was confirmed to be melanoma. The manner of death was ruled as natural causes. Since then, new details about his health struggles have emerged.

PEOPLE obtained Blackstock's death certificate, certified by the Butte-Silver Bow County Clerk and Recorder's office in Butte, Montana, on Wednesday August 13, and filed the following day. The document confirmed that Blackstock died at 11:03 a.m. under hospice care.

It also stated that he had lived with cancer for three years and experienced seizures that were listed as "significant conditions contributing to death but not resulting in the underlying cause." According to the certificate, no autopsy was performed and Blackstock's body was cremated.

On the day he died, a family spokesperson released a statement through multiple media outlets. "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," the statement read.

It continued: "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Blackstock is survived by his father, Narvel Blackstock; his mother, Elisa Gayle Ritter; his sons, Seth and Remington; daughters, Savannah and River; and siblings, Shelby, Shawna, and Chassidy.
