Jessica Simpson’s Performance in ‘American Idol’ Season Finale Sparks Criticism
The appearance marked the singer's first TV performance in a staggering 15 years. However, many weren't satisfied with her comeback, and expressed their distaste online.
Jessica Simpson lit up the "American Idol" stage with a fierce delivery of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" alongside former contestant Josh King, during the season's finale episode this past Sunday.
The longtime singer dazzled in a long-sleeved sequined gown with a thigh-high slit and matching strappy heels. She also debuted a new hair color and style, dying her hair dirty blonde with sunkissed highlights.
During her set, Simpson also sang "Blame Me" from her new album, "Nashville Canyon, Pt 1," which came out earlier this year. However, her performance was met with criticism from fans, who took to social media to share their reactions.
"She totally destroyed 'Boots are made for walking [sic],'" one person wrote. "The dancing and singing left me with a very awkward, 'what the heck just happened there' feeling," another shared.
"That wasn't fierce. That was rather concerning. It was strange, bad, and she seemed further out of touch than ever," a viewer observed. "I'm sorry. I always liked Jessica. But that was Bad [sic]," another expressed.
"Sadly, this was the only performance of the night that just didn’t work for me. I felt bad for Josh," a netizen said. Still, not all feedback was negative, as one netizen wrote, "Bless her heart." Another exclaimed, "Loved her!!"
The competition was intense as only three contestants remained and fought to be crowned winner. Ultimately, 27-year-old Jamal Roberts topped them all, walking away as the "American Idol" season 23 winner.
