A Family in Crisis
Guthrie described the moment she learned her mother had gone missing. Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on January 31, 2026, after her family dropped her off at her home in Tucson. When she failed to attend a virtual church service the next day, concern quickly escalated.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department launched an urgent search. Investigators later pointed to surveillance footage showing a masked man at Nancy’s front door, leading authorities to believe she may have been kidnapped overnight.

Now in its eighth week, the search continues with no confirmed answers.

A Painful Question
During the interview, Guthrie shared how she and her siblings tried to make sense of the situation. One of the most difficult questions she faced was whether her public profile could have played a role.
She recalled a conversation with her brother, Camron, who has a background in military intelligence and works as a fighter pilot.

"He saw very clearly right away what this was," Guthrie said, explaining that he believed it was a kidnapping for ransom. Guthrie then reflected on a moment of doubt. "It sounds so — how dumb could I be — but I said, ‘Do you think because of me?’ He said, ‘I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.’"
While there is no confirmation that her fame is connected to the case, Guthrie admitted that the thought has weighed heavily on her.

An Emotional Apology
Overcome with emotion, Guthrie issued a public apology to her family during the interview. Her words were direct and deeply personal.
"Can I just say, I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m just so sorry. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry," she cried out in the interview.
The moment underscored the emotional toll the situation has taken on her and her loved ones.

Holding on to Faith
Despite the uncertainty, Guthrie said she has leaned on her faith to cope with the situation. She described a moment during prayer that brought her a sense of comfort, even as questions remain unanswered.
"As I said to myself, 'I can handle anything, God, I can handle anything. I just can't handle not knowing. We can't handle not knowing. I have to know.' And I heard a voice. And it said, 'You do know where she is. She's with me. She's with me.' So whether she's on this side still or whether she is in heaven, I know where she is. I know who she's with. But we need to know," she pleaded.
Guthrie made it clear that her decision to speak publicly is driven by a desire to reach anyone who may have information. "Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable," she said.
As the search for Nancy Guthrie stretches into its eighth week, Savannah Guthrie’s interview offers a window into the personal anguish behind the headlines. Her words reflect grief, guilt, and hope, as she continues to seek answers and urges anyone with information to come forward.
