Olivia Munn is finding strength in life’s simplest moments as she reflects on her breast cancer journey. During a March 29, 2026 appearance on "CBS News Sunday Morning," the actress spoke candidly about how her diagnosis shifted her perspective and brought her closer to her family.

A New Appreciation for Everyday Life

Munn shared that her focus has changed since her diagnosis. Rather than looking forward to major milestones like holidays or birthdays, she now values the ordinary days the most.

She explained that life’s meaning is often found in the unexpected moments. “Life happens on a Tuesday. Like, it just happens. And you cannot expect it. And so every day, you should just be so present and grateful.”

For Munn, those “little moments” include time spent with her husband, comedian John Mulaney, and their children, Malcolm and Mei. These everyday experiences have become central to how she measures joy and fulfillment.

A Sudden and Unexpected Diagnosis

Munn first revealed her bilateral breast cancer diagnosis in March 2024. The cancer was identified as luminal B, a fast-moving and aggressive type found in both breasts.

What made the diagnosis more shocking was the absence of symptoms. She had previously received a clear mammogram, giving no indication of any underlying issue.

Before her diagnosis, Munn had taken a proactive approach to her health. She underwent genetic testing that screened for 90 different cancer-related genes. The results initially came back negative. However, just two months later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

A Difficult Medical Journey

Following her diagnosis, Munn underwent a series of major medical procedures. In total, she had five surgeries, including lymph node dissection, a double mastectomy, and a hysterectomy.

The physical and emotional toll of these procedures was significant. Still, Munn has remained open about her experience, using her platform to share what she has gone through.

Leaning on Family Support

Throughout her treatment, Munn credited her husband, John Mulaney, as a constant source of support. She spoke warmly about his presence during one of the most challenging periods of her life.

“There's no better person in the world to me than my husband,” she said. “He is — I mean, you've met him. He wanted to come to every single doctor's appointment.”

Mulaney’s involvement in her care provided comfort and stability. His willingness to be present at every step helped Munn navigate the uncertainty of her diagnosis and treatment.

Rather than focusing on what lies ahead, she is choosing to embrace what is happening now. The ordinary has become meaningful, and the unpredictable nature of life has become something to accept rather than fear.
