Karol G Received a Rare International Honor
On May 25, the singer, 35, was presented with the International Artist Award of Excellence by John Legend at the 52nd American Music Awards. The honor recognized artists whose music and cultural influence have reached audiences across the world.
The moment was especially meaningful because the award had not been handed out since Whitney Houston received it in 2009. Past recipients have also included Aerosmith, Bee Gees, Beyonce, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, and Rod Stewart.

"I want to say that more than anything, this career has given me the most important thing in my life: purpose. I found purpose through my music. I'm just happy that I can perform a song, and I can say things in my songs that become a voice for a lot of people."
