Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s New Reality Is a Far Cry From His Royal Past

Once a senior royal with a 31-room residence, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor now finds himself largely confined to a countryside retreat following his arrest. As investigations continue, his life has shifted dramatically from privilege and public duty to isolation.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s circumstances have changed sharply in recent months. Formerly known as Prince Andrew, he was stripped of his princely title by King Charles in October 2025. His latest legal troubles have further altered his daily life.

On February 19, his 66th birthday, he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Authorities are investigating allegations that he shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as the United Kingdom’s trade envoy from 2001 to 2011.

He was released after approximately 11 hours in custody and has consistently denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

Ordered to Leave Royal Lodge

Amid the release of the Epstein Files, King Charles and Prince William ordered Andrew to vacate Royal Lodge, his 31-room home in Windsor.

The move marked a significant shift. Royal Lodge had long been associated with his status within the Royal family. Being asked to leave signaled a clear change in his standing.

He is currently staying at Wood Farm in Sandringham following his arrest. The property offers a quieter and more secluded setting than his former residence.

Life at Wood Farm

Andrew is now described as largely housebound. His companions include his dogs, among them two corgis that once belonged to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

A source said, “Since his arrest last week he has been ordered not to go horse riding. It’s considered a bad look.” The restriction further underscores the change in his public presence, as activities once routine are now viewed through a different lens.

Financial Support From the King

The former Duke of York is expected to relocate again. Plans are underway for him to move to Marsh Farm once preparations are complete.

Questions have arisen about who is covering his expenses during this period. A source has claimed, “The King has undertaken to support him from private income, and I think that will continue to be the case.” That arrangement suggests continued financial backing from King Charles, even as Andrew’s public role remains diminished.

Renewed Scrutiny

Andrew’s ties to Epstein prompted him to step back from public duties in 2019. Public attention intensified again following his recent arrest and the resurfacing of past controversies.

Reports referenced a 2010 email in which he told Epstein he wished he was “a pet in your family!” The message has drawn renewed criticism.

His current situation contrasts sharply with his former position as a working royal and international trade envoy. Once engaged in official duties and public appearances, he now faces legal questions and restricted movement.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s life today bears little resemblance to his past. From a 31-room residence to a rural retreat, and from public office to investigation, his circumstances have shifted dramatically. As inquiries continue, his future within the broader Royal narrative remains uncertain.
