Kate Winslet's Son Sparks DiCaprio Comparisons After Red Carpet Debut for Their New Film
The London premiere of "Goodbye June" marked more than just a red carpet appearance—it was a family milestone. The film is Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, and the screenplay was written by her 21-year-old son.
Kate Winslet had a special date by her side at the London premiere of her new film, "Goodbye June": her 21-year-old son, Joe Anders.

The mother-son appearance quickly got fans talking online—not just about the rare outing, but about how much Anders looks like Winslet’s "Titanic" co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio.
On an Instagram post from the red carpet event, one user wrote, “His smile and eyes look like Leo.” Another said, “Looks like Leonardo DiCaprio 🤔.”

Others added, “He looks like Leo Di[C]aprio?” and “He looks like both Winslet and Leo Di[C]aprio.” Not everyone agreed, though. Some insisted, “He just looks like his mama 😍” and called him a “copy paste” of Winslet.
Anders' appearance drew attention, but the night was about much more than just a resemblance. The premiere of "Goodbye June" marked a major milestone for both Winslet and her son. The film is her directorial debut, and Anders is the screenwriter.

For the red carpet, Winslet wore a black dress with a gold belt, paired with gold jewelry and a simple updo. Anders kept it classic in a black suit with a white shirt, a couple of rings, and a silver wishbone necklace. It was a coordinated and low-key look for what was clearly a meaningful moment for the family.

During a recent appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Winslet shared how "Goodbye June" came to be. She said Anders started writing the script when he was 19 while taking a course at the National Film and Television School.
“He said, ‘I've written a script and you know it's probably not very good... would you just... could you just read it for me? And if it's [expletive], just lie,’” Winslet recalled. “And I read it and it was funny and touching and real and chaotic and messy in that way that family are. And I said to him, ‘This... I really think this could be a film.’”

Anders was encouraged by a teacher to "write what you know," which led him to base the story on a personal experience—the loss of his grandmother, Winslet’s mother, when he was a teenager. He used that as emotional inspiration for a fictional family story.

Winslet originally planned to act in and produce the film, but later decided she wanted to direct it herself.
“I suddenly couldn't let it go,” she said in the interview. “I wanted him to experience seeing this beautiful thing that he had created come to life.”
Anders is Winslet’s son with her ex-husband, director Sam Mendes. She is also mom to two other children: Mia Threapleton, 25, with her first husband Jim Threapleton, and Bear Winslet, 11, with her current husband Edward Abel Smith.
