Megan Thee Stallion Reveals She Was ‘Losing’ Herself Before Breakup with Klay Thompson

Megan Thee Stallion isn't holding back about heartbreak. The rapper is getting real about what led to her breakup with Klay Thompson — and how she's picking up the pieces since.

Megan Thee Stallion is reflecting on her painful split from Klay Thompson. The "Mamushi" rapper confirmed her breakup with the NBA player earlier this year, ending their relationship after less than 12 months together amid allegations of infidelity.

Megan and Thompson, 36, were first linked in the summer of 2025 and made their red carpet debut that July. By April 2026, however, the relationship had unraveled, with Megan accusing the Miami Heat star of cheating in a statement posted to her Instagram Stories.

"I've made the decision to end my relationship with Klay," she said at the time.

"Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there's no real path forward. I'm taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity."

Now, Megan is offering a deeper look at what led to that decision.

In a new cover interview with InStyle, published Wednesday, September 9, she described the end of the relationship as "very rough," admitting that in the months leading up to the breakup, she'd started to feel like she was losing sight of who she was.

The "WAP" rapper said she spent much of her time with Thompson "trying to make pieces fit that didn't belong," constantly working to squeeze herself "into someone else's life."

"I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again," she said. "I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me. I cannot not go to work. I'm going to be Megan Thee Stallion…You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period."

As for how she's holding up post-split, Megan didn't sugarcoat it. "I'm trying my best," she shared. "I feel like I've been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus."

She also opened up about the emotional toll of infidelity, noting that she's come to understand it isn't a reflection of her own worth.

"That doesn't have anything to do with you. You're not less attractive. You're not less of a good person," she explained. "Even though it might feel like that, 'Oh my gosh, why me? Why am I not enough?' 'Cause it could definitely feel like, 'Why am I not enough?'"

Looking ahead, Megan says she hopes her next relationship will be with someone who respects her demanding schedule and thriving career, rather than expecting her to stay home "24/7."

She's also determined to find a more balanced dynamic in her next partnership. "Whoever dates me is gonna have to just understand, like, she is her own person," she said. "I cannot be minimized. I will not be behind any man."

"I will have a partner. I'm never gonna take the backseat to anything. So just going forward, I think I've just learned this is the type of person that I want to be with, this is what I will tolerate, this is what I won't tolerate. And if you can't take that, we just gotta respectfully go our separate ways."
