Dispatch Audio Released in Fatal Shooting of Singer DELAROSA
A newly released dispatch recording offers a closer look at a deadly overnight incident in Northridge. The victim, a young music artist on the rise, was inside a parked car when the shooting began.
Emergency dispatch audio released this week provides new information about the fatal shooting of Latin music artist DELAROSA, whose real name was Maria De La Rosa.
The 22-year-old singer was shot while sitting in a parked car in Northridge, California, on November 22. According to TMZ the dispatcher described the victim as a Hispanic female in her 20s with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center in critical condition. Friends were reportedly waiting in the hospital’s family room for updates.
What Happened That Night
The shooting occurred shortly around 1:25 a.m. on Bryant Street. De La Rosa was in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle with two friends when two male suspects approached from the driver’s side and opened fire.
There are conflicting reports about the condition of the other two occupants. According to TMZ, De La Rosa’s family said the other two people in the car were not struck by bullets. However, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later stated that both surviving victims sustained critical injuries.
Officers at the scene found 9mm bullet casings on the ground. De La Rosa’s family told TMZ they were confident the LAPD would identify those responsible, saying they had been informed there was significant surveillance footage in the area, including Ring camera video. This information has not been publicly confirmed by the LAPD.
Three Suspects Charged
On November 26, the District Attorney’s Office announced murder charges against three men in connection with the shooting: Francisco Otilio Gaytan, Benny LiconGomez, and Eduardo Lopez, all residents of Northridge.
Each suspect was charged with one felony count of murder and two felony counts of attempted second-degree robbery. Prosecutors allege that the three approached the car, demanded money, and then opened fire. De La Rosa was fatally struck, and her two companions were critically injured.
“This was a ruthless and targeted attack that stole the life of a young woman and artist and inflicted profound lifelong trauma on her family and the two survivors,” District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement.
Gaytan was arrested on the day of the shooting and is scheduled for arraignment in January 2026. LiconGomez was arrested the following day and arraigned on November 26. Lopez remains at large. All three face the possibility of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. The case remains under investigation by the LAPD.
