Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s Last Joint Appearance Hinted at Tension, Says Body Language Expert

The couple, who have been married for nearly two decades, are now divorcing. News of their split first broke earlier this week, with sources claiming they had been separated since June.

Experts have observed Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's "strained body language" during their last public appearance together at a FIFA World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee, in June — just days shy of their 19th wedding anniversary.

The couple were spotted in the stands in GEODIS Park, looking on as the Los Angeles Football Club faced off against Tunisia's Espérance de Tunis. Kidman exuded her timeless elegance in a sleeveless, ivory dress adorned with a delicate floral pattern.

Beside her, Urban was dressed in a light plaid button-down shirt with rolled-up sleeves, paired with distressed light-wash jeans. The two were photographed mid-conversation during the match.

Body language expert Louise Mahler told the Daily Mail on Tuesday, September 30, that the outing hinted at friction between the couple. "At one point, Nicole is fiddling with her left hand which is a sign of tension, but we do not know what it is about," she said.

Mahler also noted that Urban did not appear to look at Kidman at any point during the game. "He is looking away but Nicole is looking at him, it is an odd look," she added.

Another body language and behavioral expert, Scott Taylor, pointed out that the outing contrasted with Urban and Kidman’s past public appearances. "They would often mimic each others head tilt and even lean into each other equally," Taylor noted.

He added that there was a "lack of genuine emotion" from the pair during the match. "We also see their chins dipped a bit lower than usual," he continued. "This 'power zone' covering often comes when there is some element of discomfort and we have not really seen this prior."

Kidman and Urban were confirmed to have separated on Monday, September 29. Sources said they had been living apart "since the beginning of summer." On Tuesday, September 30, Kidman officially filed for divorce in Nashville, citing irreconcilable differences.
