Eric Dane’s Wife Rebecca Shares Update on How His Family Is Coping After His ALS Diagnosis
The "Grey's Anatomy" alum first revealed his diagnosis in April of this year. Despite their separation, his wife remains supportive of him and their two daughters.
Eric Dane's wife, Rebecca Gayheart, is opening up about the toll of the actor's ALS diagnosis on their family. The actress, who shares daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, with Dane, admitted that they're all having a hard time but are "taking it day by day."
"We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we're just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love," Gayheart told PEOPLE at Step Up's 2025 Inspiration Awards on Friday, September 26.
"I mean, it's heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we're just trying to get through it. It's a tough time," she added. Gayheart married Dane in 2004. She filed for divorce in 2018, but the pair called off their split seven years later.
"I don't think I'm at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. I'm not there yet," the 54-year-old model said of her state of mind as she navigates Dane's health battle.
"I mean, we're definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family, whether we're married or not, or living in the same house or not, but yeah, we are closer, but we don't like the reason why," she reflected.
"It's a horrible disease, and I wish that there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad," she said. After announcing his diagnosis, Dane partnered with the nonprofit I Am ALS to help raise funds for research and treatment for patients with limited access to healthcare.
