Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston Share a Deeply Personal Discovery After Decades of Friendship
Fans of "The Morning Show" got an unexpected glimpse into the off-screen bond between Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, when a lighthearted revelation about their real names showed there is still more to discover in their decades-long friendship.
After more than 20 years of friendship, Jennifer Aniston recently learned a surprising truth about her longtime costar and close friend, Reese Witherspoon.
During a joint interview with LADbible published on September 16, 2025, the "Friends" alum, 56, was shocked to find out that "Reese" isn't actually her friend's given first name.
"I'm Laura Jean," Witherspoon, 49, revealed. "That's my real name."
Aniston's reaction was both confused and hilarious, as she blurted out, "Who the hell's Laura?"
Curious about her friend's choice, Aniston followed up by asking, "What made you go with Reese for your acting name?"
Witherspoon clarified that she never legally changed her name at all. Instead, she explained that "Reese" comes directly from her family heritage. "It's my middle name," she said, adding that it comes from her mother Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Witherspoon's maiden name. "I'm Laura Jean Reese."
The revelation sparked another fun twist, as Witherspoon admitted she didn't know Aniston's middle name either. When she learned it was Joanna, she responded with a laugh, "I was today years old," before playfully asking whether anyone ever calls her "J.J."
Aniston said no, prompting Witherspoon to quip, "Well, I do now!"
The candid exchange highlighted just how much even the closest friends can continue to learn about each other — even after decades of working together and sharing the spotlight.
