Sheinelle Jones to Return to ‘Today’ Show Nearly Four Months After Laying Late Husband to Rest
Fans of the NBC show first noticed the anchor's absence in late 2024, which she later addressed in January of this year. Her husband died of cancer in May.
Sheinelle Jones is making a much-awaited return to the "Today" desk this coming Friday, September 5. Her co-hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, announced the news during a morning broadcast on Tuesday, September 2.

"We've got some other great news that we are so excited to share with you and it involves a member of our own Today family," Craig began the announcement.
"Yes, our beloved Sheinelle will be returning to the show," Savannah shared. "She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband, Uche."
Sheinelle's return will mark her first on-screen appearance in a pre-taped interview with Guthrie since taking her leave in mid-December 2024. In the segment, she opens up about her grief after losing her husband, Uche Jones.
"We recently sat down together," Savannah continued. "We shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months."
"She calls this experience a 'beautiful nightmare.' And she has thoughts on grief that are so touching. She's got a special message of hope too for anyone facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you," she said.

Sheinelle had initially told fans in January of this year that she was taking time away from work to "deal with a family health matter" in an Instagram statement. It wasn't until this past May that her co-hosts announced the passing of her husband during a broadcast on the 23rd.
Uche died after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 45. He and Sheinelle were married for nearly 18 years, after tying the knot on September 2, 2007. They shared three children: Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.
