
'The Sopranos' Star Jerry Adler Dies at 96
The legendary Hollywood public figure's cause of death wasn't immediately revealed in the wake of his passing after a long life.
Jerry Adler's loved ones announced via the Riverside Memorial Chapel that he sadly passed away at 96 on August 23, 2025. Born in February 1929, the website noted that Adler was a New York resident.
The veteran star's cause of death wasn't instantly disclosed. However, a representative revealed to Page Six, "He passed peacefully in his sleep in New York City." Adler leaves behind his longtime wife, Joan Laxman, whom he had been married to for 31 years, and his four daughters, Alisa, Amy, Emily, and Laura.
In the wake of his death, fans and colleagues alike have paid tribute to the television star, sharing how much they enjoyed seeing him on the screens. His dear friend, Frank J. Reilly, took to X alongside photos of the duo and penned, "Not bad for a guy who didn't start acting until he was 65."
Adler first launched his career on Broadway as a stage manager and was a key factor in the production of "My Fair Lady." He went on to direct and produce over 50 Broadway shows.
The Brooklyn native worked on soap operas for almost ten years before transitioning to become a full-time actor. He rose to prominence following his stint in "The Public Eye."
This was followed by his most famous role yet in "The Sopranos," wherein he played Herman "Hesh" Rabkin. Adler also had recurring roles in shows such as "The Good Wife" and "Rescue Me."
