The Former White House Press Secretary is set to release her book later this year, which reveals her departure from the Democratic Party to become independent—and a "betrayal" by the left-leaning political entity.

Karine Jean-Pierre announced the upcoming release of her book, "Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines," on Wednesday, June 4, in an Instagram reel.

In the post, Jean-Pierre begins by introducing herself and the book, which is slated for release on October 21, 2025. She then explains what motivated her to write it.

"Serving as a White House Press Secretary was an honor and a privilege," she began.

"But since I have left, the people that come up to me, stranger that come up to me, just across the country as I'm traveling, and sometimes right in my neighborhood — at a grocery store, supermarket, airport, my daughter's school — the number one question they ask me is, 'Karine, how do we get out of this? How do we protect our democracy?'" she continued.

Jean-Pierre says she offers her answer in the new book, in which she "defines what it means to be part of the growing percentage of our fractured electorate that is Independent" and "why it can be worthwhile to carve a political space more loyal to personal beliefs than a party affiliation," per its description on her publisher's site.

The description adds that she didn't take the decision to become independent lightly. Interestingly, it also notes that she delves into "the betrayal by the Democratic Party" that she believes led to Biden's decision to withdraw from running for a second term.

This revelation sparked criticism from former Biden administration officials, who argue that Jean-Pierre is misrepresenting the situation. They view Biden’s decision to step down as the "responsible" course of action.

Caitlin Legacki, a Democratic strategist who worked in the Commerce Department's communications shop during Biden's term, also notably weighed in.

"It's more productive to focus on that, and thank Biden for doing the responsible thing by stepping aside, than it is to pretend this was an unwarranted act of betrayal," she said.
