'Good Meeting': Body Language Expert Analyzes Donald Trump's 'Intense' Exchange with Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Donald Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may have been labeled a success. However, a body language expert suggests that the encounter was more intense than it appeared, highlighting subtle non-verbal cues that hinted at deeper dynamics between the two leaders.
Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy sat down to discuss before attending Pope Francis' funeral on April 26, 2025. The leaders were captured sitting opposite each other in Saint Peter's Basilica.

As pictures circulated online, body language expert Judi James gave her take on what the men looked like during their talk. In an interview with MailOnline, she remarked, "This is phenomenally intense-looking body language, made all the more surreal by the setting it's occurring in."
The expert points out that their posture looks like two people focused on a game of chess, trying to outsmart each other, but in this case, it's about something much bigger — world affairs.
While their close head positioning might seem confrontational, their closeness and similar stances suggest they are more likely to reach an agreement than to clash.
James observed that during their earlier fallout in the Oval Office, there was a clear display of physical aggression, with Trump trying to assert physical dominance. However, in this meeting, both men appear to be positioning themselves as equals in terms of physical presence and status.
Trump's feet tucked under his chair and his posture on his toes suggest he's staying flexible and ready to move in the conversation. His clasped hands and pursed lips indicate a willingness to listen.
In contrast, Zelensky's feet are firmly planted on the floor, implying a more stubborn stance. Yet, his cupped hands and raised eyebrows show he's eager to persuade and make his point.
After they met, Zelenskyy took to X and wrote, "Good meeting. We discussed a lot one on one. Hoping for results on everything we covered." He also noted the potential of their meeting to become historic while thanking Trump.
Trump also took to his TruthSocial account to post pictures of himself and Zelenskyy. Despite their complex history, the latest exchange between Trump and Zelenskyy suggests a shift toward mutual respect and strategic dialogue.
As their statements hint at optimism and potential progress, the meeting may mark a turning point in their relationship — and possibly in broader U.S.–Ukraine relations.
