Robert Downey Jr. helped launch Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship in a star-studded ceremony in Singapore. The actor, known for his role as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, served as the vessel’s godparent and delivered the official blessing of the Disney Adventure.

Robert Downey Jr. took center stage during the christening of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Adventure, in Singapore. The ceremony welcomed the vessel into the fleet and highlighted Disney’s growing presence in Southeast Asia.

With performances, orchestral music, and appearances from Disney characters, the event blended entertainment with a traditional maritime blessing led by the Hollywood star.

A Milestone for Disney Cruise Line

The christening of the Disney Adventure marked a significant moment for Disney Cruise Line. The ship is the eighth vessel in the company’s fleet and the largest one it has built so far. It also represents Disney’s first cruise ship to operate from Southeast Asia.

Singapore will serve as the ship’s homeport, positioning the vessel in a region that continues to grow as a travel destination. The launch reflects Disney’s broader effort to bring its cruise experiences to new parts of the world.

The ceremony took place aboard the ship inside the Walt Disney Theatre. Executives from Disney Experiences attended alongside invited guests, performers, and members of the media.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, spoke during the event and highlighted the company’s tradition of storytelling and innovation. He said, “The Walt Disney Company has always been built on the power of storytelling and innovation — and Disney Cruise Line brings those values to life in extraordinary ways.”

Music and Performances Set the Stage

The ceremony featured a theatrical program inspired by Disney films and characters. A 23-piece orchestra opened the event with the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean," setting a dramatic tone for the celebration.

Live performances followed from international artists. Filipino singer Jed Madela, a Hollywood Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductee, performed “We Know the Way” from "Moana."

Madela later returned to the stage alongside Korean-Australian singer Dami Im. Together they delivered a medley of songs drawn from several Disney films, including "Tangled," "Frozen," "The Little Mermaid," and "Big Hero 6."

The musical performances reflected Disney’s long tradition of storytelling through film and music. They also helped transform the ceremony into a theatrical event rather than a simple ship launch.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Grand Entrance

One of the most anticipated moments of the ceremony came when Robert Downey Jr. appeared on stage. As he entered, the orchestra played the Avengers theme, referencing his role as Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Downey’s appearance drew strong reactions from the audience. His involvement added a major celebrity presence to the ceremony.

The actor was chosen to serve as the ship’s official godparent. In maritime tradition, a ship’s godparent participates in the christening and offers a blessing for the vessel and its passengers.

Before performing the ceremony, Downey shared his admiration for the team behind the ship’s creation. He said, “I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created.”

The Official Blessing

Following his remarks, Downey carried out the ceremonial christening. In keeping with maritime tradition, he delivered the blessing that formally welcomed the vessel into service.

“I christen thee, Disney Adventure, may God bless this ship and all who sail upon her.” With those words, the Disney Adventure officially joined the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

A Celebratory Finale

The ceremony concluded with a lively finale that brought together performers, Disney executives, and beloved characters from across Disney’s franchises. Characters from Disney, Pixar, and Marvel joined the stage for the closing number.

Together they performed the song “Let’s Set Sail,” celebrating the launch of the new ship and its upcoming voyages.

The Ship’s First Voyages

The Disney Adventure is scheduled to begin sailing on March 10, 2026. Early itineraries will include three-night and four-night cruises departing from Singapore.

These sailings mark the start of Disney Cruise Line’s operations in Southeast Asia. The new ship is expected to bring Disney’s signature mix of entertainment, storytelling, and themed experiences to travelers in the region.

The christening of the Disney Adventure combined celebrity presence, musical performances, and traditional maritime ceremony. With Robert Downey Jr. delivering the blessing and Disney characters joining the celebration, the event reflected the company’s unique approach to entertainment and travel.

As the newest and largest ship in the fleet prepares for its first voyages, the Disney Adventure also signals Disney Cruise Line’s expansion into Southeast Asia.
