Whoopi Goldberg Announces the Birth of Her Great-Granddaughter
Whoopi Goldberg is adding another cherished title to her long list of life achievements, and she could not be more delighted to share the news with the audience that has watched her for decades.
On the Monday, December 8, 2025, episode of "The View," Whoopi Goldberg surprised viewers with a personal announcement that quickly warmed the studio. The 70-year-old actress and broadcaster opened the show by revealing that her family had grown once again over the weekend.

"I'm going to start out today because I have some fun news from over the weekend. My family welcomed Lotus Dean to the world. She's 6lbs., 3oz.," Goldberg said, smiling as she addressed the audience.
The moment marked the arrival of Goldberg's second great-grandchild, a milestone she openly described as deeply meaningful. Sitting at the table with her co-hosts, the longtime television personality paused to reflect on how special the experience felt.
"It's a wonderful thing," Goldberg added. "It's a wonderful thing. This is my second."
A Proud Moment for the Entire Family
Goldberg's announcement prompted congratulations from her fellow panelists, including Ana Navarro, who made sure to highlight the family connection behind the news.
"And congratulations to Alex, who is a grandmother again," Navarro said, referring to Goldberg's only child, Alex Martin. Admittedly, Goldberg doesn't think about her daughter being a grandmother again.
Rather, she only thinks about herself being a great-grandmother for the second time. "I never thought I'd have two great-grandkids. To be there for that," she admitted.
Goldberg shares Martin with her first husband, Alvin Martin. Over the years, Goldberg has spoken candidly about her close relationship with her daughter and the joy she finds in watching her family expand across generations.
Embracing Life as a Great-Grandmother
Goldberg also shared that her great-grandchildren keep things simple when it comes to addressing her. Rather than adopting a traditional family title, they call her by the name audiences around the world know best.
As for what her great-grandkids call her, she's simply "Whoopi."
A Growing Legacy Across Generations
This is not the first time Goldberg has celebrated becoming a great-grandmother. She reached that milestone in 2014, when her eldest grandchild, Amara Skye, welcomed a daughter named Charli Rose.
Over the years, Goldberg has spoken openly about how witnessing new generations come into her family has shifted her perspective on life, aging, and legacy. Known for her outspoken views and sharp wit, she has also been candid about the grounding influence her family has had throughout her career.
The arrival of Lotus Dean marks another chapter in that journey, one Goldberg seemed eager to savor.

While Goldberg continues her work on "The View" and remains a prominent voice in entertainment and public discourse, moments like this highlight the personal milestones that matter most to her.
Announcing the birth on live television allowed Goldberg to share her joy with an audience that has followed her career for decades. It also offered a rare glimpse into the family life of a woman whose professional accomplishments are widely known.
