Speaking with Lee Cowan on the September 28, 2025 episode of "CBS News Sunday Morning," the 56-year-old singer and actress said that her split from Affleck, 53, along with the lessons she gained during that period, was "the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Because it changed me," Lopez added. "It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow."
Affleck, meanwhile, is connected to Lopez’s latest project, "Kiss of the Spider Woman," serving as an executive producer. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, coinciding with the month Lopez and Affleck finalized their divorce.
Reflecting on balancing her career with the emotional challenges at home, Lopez told "CBS News Sunday Morning," "It was a really tough time. Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, oh, you know, 'How do I reconcile this?'"
Lopez and Affleck's history dates back to 2002 when they first began dating and got engaged. That engagement ended in 2004, after which both stars explored other relationships and started families.
The duo rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in a small Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022. They celebrated their marriage again the following month with a larger ceremony in Georgia with friends and family.
Their relationship ultimately came to an end, and Lopez filed for divorce two years later, citing irreconcilable differences.
