Gordon Ramsay Reveals He Underwent Surgery to Remove Skin Cancer
The famed restaurateur, who has been open about his health scares, shared photos of his post-surgery scar and encouraged fans to use sunscreen to guard against the disease.
Gordon Ramsay took to Instagram on Friday, August 29, to reveal that he underwent surgery to remove a skin cancer mass beneath his left ear. The British celebrity chef posted photos of his scar following the procedure.
"Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!" Ramsay wrote.
"Please don't forget your sunscreen this weekend ❤️I promise you it's not a face lift! I'd need a refund…….😜," he joked. Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, according to Mayo Clinic.
It often appears as a "slightly transparent bump on the skin," though it can take other forms, and is thought to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. "Avoiding the sun and using sunscreen may help protect against basal cell carcinoma," Mayo Clinic states.
Ramsay had another health scare last year, in June, when he got into a gruesome bike accident. The crash left him severely injured and unable to care for himself for some time, but he has since recovered.
