Richard Gere’s Wife, Alejandra, Posts Poignant Message About ‘Helplessness’
The Spanish publicist reflected on the challenge of staying present and engaged amid the current global climate. Her message comes after she confirmed plans to return to the U.S. following their relocation with her husband and children to her home country.
Richard Gere's wife, Alejandra Silva, recently took to Instagram to share an introspective message. She posted a close-up selfie, showing about half her face as she held a steady gaze ahead. She also included a black-and-white version of the image.
"How much helplessness can fit on a six-inch screen?" Silva began in her caption on Friday, August 1. "And how much does the world—the one they insist we can't change—move when we push it even a millimeter?"
She continued: "The week we left behind hurt. But I don't want to normalize the idea that there's nothing to do. I don't want to look without feeling. I don't want to pass by. I swipe my finger and there they are: the war, the vulnerability, the fear."
"We see it all, we feel it all… and yet our hands seem small. Look. Share. Turn off the screen. Look again. That sequence haunts me these days, and I wanted to release it here. Do you feel it too?" the activist asked her followers.

Shortly after, she thanked those who reached out to express that they were experiencing the same feelings. "Let's turn this helplessness into action; let's not let the pain become routine. Let's keep looking, sharing, and, above all, acting. Together we are a voice and a force," she wrote.
Silva's post comes after she revealed that she and Gere plan to return to the United States after relocating with their two young sons to Spain in November 2024. "For a few years [we'll live in Spain], and then come back," Silva told the Daily Mail in April of this year.
"But we're always coming back. We'll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here," she explained.
She also shared, "I'm with my family... I missed them a lot. But I miss the U.S. So we come back and forth."
