Billy Joel’s Ex-wife Elizabeth Weber Reveals the Current State of Their Relationship
The former spouses were married for nearly ten years before calling it quits in the early '80s. Despite having separated several decades ago, they still keep in touch.
Billy Joel's first wife, Elizabeth Weber, is opening up about her relationship with the famed pianist 43 years after they divorced. The former couple met in the late 1960s when Weber was still married to Joel's best friend and The Hassles former bandmate, Jon Small.

They began seeing each other soon after, but the discovery of their affair led to The Hassles breaking up and Joel spiraling into severe depression. The singer even tried taking his own life twice.
Years later, he and Weber reconnected after she divorced Small and rekindled their romance. They tied the knot in 1973, but decided to end things in 1982. Speaking of their relationship now, Weber described it as relatively good-natured.

"If I wanna talk to him or if I have something to say, I am able to contact him whenever I want to," Weber told Us Weekly on Friday, August 8. "But he has a wife and he has children and right now, he's struggling with something that's… that's a big thing."
In May of this year, Joel announced that he was canceling the remaining dates of his 2025 tour. The 76-year-old was recently diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition known to cause problems with walking, memory, balance and bladder control.
"So, [our relationship] is as close as it needs to be for two people who decided to divorce 40 years ago," Weber continued, adding that "of course" she reaches out to Joel amid his health diagnosis.
