Christina Ricci Honored Husband Mark Hampton in Father’s Day Tribute Days Before Custody Drama With Ex

The "Yellowjackets" actress shared a sweet Father's Day tribute to her husband Mark Hampton, days before her custody battle with ex James Heerdegen made headlines.

Christina Ricci is counting her blessings. The "Sleepy Hollow" star gave fans a rare glimpse into her home life with husband Mark Hampton this past Sunday, taking to Instagram with a heartfelt Father's Day tribute.

"Happy Father's Day!!!!!!" Ricci wrote. "The best dad we could have ever hoped for. I honestly didn't know they made them like you, babe. I am so grateful for you. We LOVE you so much @markhamptonhair ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥."

Alongside the message, the actress shared a photo of her little family, including her son Freddie, 11, and daughter Cleo, 4. The snap shows Mark lying upside down on the floor with a playful grin as Freddie leans over him, flashing a cheeky smile.

The warm post, however, came just days before a legal dispute with Ricci's ex-husband, James Heerdegen, spilled into public view. In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Heerdegen was denied emergency custody of Freddie after filing an ex parte request.

The producer submitted his filing following an alleged incident earlier this month. According to the complaint, Ricci, 46, was traveling with her son to Canada for work on June 16 when Heerdegen claimed he received text messages from Freddie saying that she had consumed alcohol on the flight.

Freddie used "certain words to describe the manner" in which his mom drank and her behavior afterward — a sensitive detail, given that Ricci has previously spoken openly about turning to alcohol to cope with the pressures of childhood fame.

Just one day after sending those messages, though, Freddie told his father's lawyers that he had "overreacted." He clarified that his mother's behavior was not as he had initially described, and that he had "no fear" about remaining in her primary physical custody.

On her end, Ricci requested that Freddie's text messages be sealed to protect her son's privacy. She cited concerns over bullying — Freddie has allegedly been targeted by former classmates in the past and is currently in therapy.

With a new school on the horizon, Ricci argued that making the messages public could reignite that bullying and take a toll on his mental health. The judge sided with her, agreeing to seal the documents and ultimately denying Heerdegen's request on Tuesday, June 23.

Ricci and Heerdegen married in 2013 and welcomed Freddie the following year. By June 2020, the relationship had deteriorated significantly: Ricci was granted a protective order against Heerdegen after the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a domestic battery call at the couple's home.

Heerdegen denied the abuse allegations and was not arrested, but the order barred the two from contacting one another. The following month, Ricci filed for divorce, and their split finalized in December 2022.

The former couple agreed to share legal custody of Freddie, though Ricci retains final say over her son's education and medical care. In the meantime, she moved forward — falling in love with hairstylist Mark Hampton amid the upheaval.

The pair wed in October 2021 and welcomed daughter Cleopatra just two months later.
