CBS Cancels "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" After Ten Seasons
The longtime host recently announced the news during his opening monologue on the show, and fellow TV hosts have since responded, questioning the network's decision.
Stephen Colbert shared during the episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on July 18, 2025, that CBS canceled the show.
"Before we start the show, I want to let you know something that I found out, just last night. Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending 'The Late Show' in May," said Colbert.
Immediately after his statement, the audience booed, and Colbert chimed in, "Yeah, I share your feeling," adding that it is not only the end of the prime-time show but that it wouldn't be aired on CBS entirely. "This is all just going away," he explained.
The audience erupted in disapproval once again, and they aren't the only ones disappointed with the news. Fellow late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel, blasted the network on his Instagram Stories, writing, "Love you Stephen. [Expletive] you and all your Sheldons, CBS."
In addition to the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host, Andy Cohen also weighed in, praising Colbert for his brilliance with the show and noting that his work is Emmy-worthy.
"I can't believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I'm stunned. [...] 'I think it's a sad day for late-night television," said the media personality in an interview. "The Late Show" first aired in 2015.
