Katy Perry Stuck in Metal Cage While Crew Scrambles to Fix Malfunction
The "Dark Horse" singer found herself in a terrifying predicament during the last stop of her tour in Australia. She wrapped up the show with an emotional expression of gratitude.
Katy Perry closed the Australian leg of her "Lifetimes" tour — which began earlier this year in April — on Monday, June 30, in Adelaide.
During her show, the pop star was inside a spherical metal cage onstage that was designed to hoist her above the audience. In videos shared online, a group of what appears to be male dancers can be seen surrounding the cage before bolting offstage as the song ends.
As it begins descending, however, the sphere suddenly tilts. Perry reacts quickly, clutching the top of the cage as backstage crew members rush to stabilize it, allowing her to exit the mechanism. She was eventually ushered out and led to safety.
Toward the end of the show, she became teary-eyed as she expressed gratitude to her fans. "Thank you for always being there for me, Australia; it means the world," she said. "Now let's sing 'Firework!'"
Perry's equipment malfunction follows a similar incident that Beyoncé faced during a Texas show for her "Cowboy Carter" tour. The singer was floating above the crowd in a red car that tilted while she was performing, leading her to halt the show. Thankfully, she was also led to safety.
