President Trump Reacts to Air India Plane Crash, Offers Aid

The President of the United States (POTUS) shared his remarks during a press conference at the White House shortly after news of the tragic incident broke.

President Donald Trump has offered aid to Indian authorities as a devastating plane crash that has claimed over 300 lives grips the nation.

Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 was scheduled to depart from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and was bound for London. The Air India flight took off at approximately 1:38 p.m. local time, with 242 passengers on board.

Five minutes later, it crashed in a residential area in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad, taking the lives of 241 passengers. One miraculously survived. The crash marks India’s deadliest aviation disaster since 1996.

"The plane crash was terrible," President Trump said. "I've already told them, 'Anything we can do'—It's a big country, a strong country. They'll handle it, I'm sure. But I let them know that anything we can do will be over there immediately. But it was a horrific crash."

U.S. and U.K. experts are expected to join Indian investigators to determine what caused the accident.

Trump added that "nobody knows" what might have happened but offered "a couple of pointers" regarding potential areas of investigation.
