Jonathan Groff Straddles Keanu Reeves Mid-Show at the Tony Awards
Jonathan Groff caused a stir at the 78th Annual Tony Awards when, during a live performance, he left the stage and straddled actor Keanu Reeves in the audience—creating one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Jonathan Groff, 40, promoted his musical "Just in Time" on Sunday, June 8, 2025, during the Tonys held at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. While performing a medley of songs from the new Bobby Darin bio-musical including "Mack the Knife," "That's All," and "Once in a Lifetime," he left the stage and ventured into the star-studded audience.

Spotting Reeves, 60, seated among fellow attendees, Groff spontaneously leapt toward him and straddled him with one leg on either side. The Tony winner then stood on the armrests of the "John Wick" star's seat, performing to the crowd behind him while Reeves remained seated below, clearly amused.
Cameras captured Reeves flashing two rock and roll hand signs as Groff sang overhead, drawing laughter and cheers from the audience in one of the evening's most talked-about moments.

Groff and Reeves previously worked together on "The Matrix Resurrections," and their comfort on stage reflected their shared history.
Groff earned a nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Bobby Darin, but the award ultimately went to Darren Criss. Other nominees included Andrew Durand, Tom Francis, James Monroe Iglehart, and Jeremy Jordan.
"Just in Time," directed by Alex Timbers, opened in April at Circle in the Square Theatre and received six Tony Award nominations, though it ultimately came away empty-handed.
