Dolly Parton Shares Honest Reaction to Beyoncé's Rendition of 'Jolene'
Country music icon Dolly Parton is sharing her candid thoughts on Beyoncé’s bold reimagining of "Jolene," which appeared on the pop superstar's 2024 album Cowboy Carter.
Beyoncé offered a fresh take on "Jolene" in her 2024 album "Cowboy Carter," transforming the tone of the song from a vulnerable plea to a confident warning. The reworked version features updated lyrics and a more assertive narrative voice.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Parton shared her thoughts on the cover. "I'm a huge fan of hers – I mean, who's not?" she said. "I think she's a magnificent artist, beautiful, and the dancing in addition to the singing."
"I was just honored that she, of course, did a completely different take on 'Jolene' than my version of it," Parton continued. "Hers was more like, 'Well, you're not getting him, you're not taking him, you're going to go through me to get him.' Mine was more like, 'Please don't take him!' So I loved her interpretation."
Parton had nothing but praise for the superstar, who is currently on her "Cowboy Carter Tour," set to wrap on July 26 in Paradise, Nevada.
In recent months, Dolly Parton has also been navigating personal loss following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March. She disclosed in a previous interview that her faith has been her ultimate source of strength throughout the ordeal.
