Emma Chamberlain on How She Found Out She Has PCOS
The YouTuber received her diagnosis unexpectedly from a woman sitting next to her at the wash bowls in a salon, and it changed her life for the better.
A hair salon isn't the most common place for a medical diagnosis, but it's where Emma Chamberlain received hers. The social media personality recently talked about the experience in a Vogue video posted on April 22.

Chamberlain recalled sitting in a chair getting her hair washed when a woman turned to her and asked, "Do you have PCOS?"
Chamberlain admitted she didn't know, though her mom had both PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and endometriosis, and has "had a lot of challenges." The woman responded, "I think you have PCOS."

The encounter happened over a year ago, and the woman explained she could tell by the acne Chamberlain's cheeks. "Turns out she was an OBGYN and she diagnosed me with PCOS. It's really changed my life, to be honest," the influencer said.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, PCOS can cause irregular periods, acne, hair thinning, enlarged ovaries or cysts, infertility, weight gain, and more.
Following her diagnosis, Chamberlain began taking medication to help regulate her hormones. Since then, her skin is clearer and easier to take care of, her periods are "so much more chill," and her hair is thickening.
"It's just feeling like I'm coming back to myself in a way," she said. She first publicly shared that she had PCOS during an episode of her podcast, "Anything Goes," last year.
Since the condition affects fertility, she worried whether she'd be able to have children. However, she found consolation in the fact that her mother had PCOS and was still able to have her.
