On the other hand, Princess Catherine had seen the film the night before and admitted, “I thought it was a bad idea, actually,” about watching the film ahead of the awards and finding herself in a "flood of tears."
“Ended up with very puffy eyes," she shared, but praised the film nonetheless. "It was so beautifully shot. The music as well. The score is fantastic.”

Hamnet tells the story of the childhood death of William Shakespeare’s son and explores the grief of his parents. The princess praised the film’s emotional depth, describing its “presentation of intergenerational grief.”
She also commended the performances of the younger cast members, saying, “The children did so well.”
She added that she appreciated the film’s connection to the natural world. “I loved the connection to nature… it’s very stripped back, and you see the human emotions,” she said.

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the ceremony in coordinated looks, which drew attention on the red carpet.
Princess Catherine wore an ombré mauve Gucci gown that she previously debuted in 2019, while Princess William matched her burgundy belt with a velvet blazer in a similar shade.
The coordinated styling was widely noted as a sign of unity during their first public appearance following a turbulent week for the royal family after Prince Andrew's arrest.
An attendee asked the couple on the red carpet whether the monarchy was “in peril,” but they did not respond to the question.
William and Catherine were at the ceremony in support of BAFTA, where William has served as president since 2010.
The Princess also reflected on how films can spark meaningful conversations at home. Referring to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, she said, “The children are starting to get interested in films and it's a really great way to have some of the hard conversations with them.”
The couple’s comments came as "Hamnet" continues to draw attention during awards season, with its focus on grief, family, and memory resonating with audiences.
