Matthew McConaughey Shares Bedroom Secret Behind His Lasting Marriage to Camila Alves
Matthew McConaughey is offering an unfiltered glimpse into the personal choices that keep his marriage strong, revealing how one surprising change in his household has helped him and Camila Alves stay connected.
Matthew McConaughey, 55, is opening up about the little adjustments that have strengthened his marriage to wife Camila Alves. The actor recently released his new book, "Poems & Prayers," where he shares personal reflections and life lessons.
Speaking with Fox News Digital, McConaughey revealed that one simple change in the bedroom helped him feel closer to his wife.
In an excerpt from the book, he wrote, "The best thing you can do for your marriage. One way to surely get ahead, is get rid of that king-size mattress, and sleep in a queen-size bed."
McConaughey explained that switching to a smaller bed created more intimacy. "We have kids and we go to our friend's house and he has one of these double king-size beds put together and all the kids sleep in the bed," he told Fox News Digital. "The wife's on one side with her side table and the husband's on the other side and it's great when you got all three kids, but all of a sudden the kids get too big. They're out of the bed."
Suddenly, he started to realize that when the kids were gone, Alves was way too far from him to snuggle up. He continued, "You're like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a [expletive]. So we got a queen size where we're shoulder to shoulder. I'm telling you, it's good for your marriage."
According to McConaughey, the smaller bed also leaves no room for kids to join in, which he believes benefits his relationship with Alves.
Family has long been at the center of McConaughey's priorities. He and Alves, who married in 2012, are raising three children, Levi, Vida, and Livingston. The family relocated from California to Texas shortly after their wedding.
The couple's love story began in 2006 when they met at a Los Angeles nightclub. At the time, the "True Detective" star admitted he was close to giving up on the idea of finding "the one," but meeting Alves changed that.
