Meghan Markle Opens Up About Being Away from Her Kids During Queen Elizabeth's Funeral on 'With Love, Meghan'
In "With Love, Meghan," the Duchess of Sussex reflected on the nearly three weeks she was separated from her children, a stretch many believe was the time she and Prince Harry were in an extended stay in the U.K. following Queen Elizabeth II's death.
The third episode of season two of "With Love, Meghan" has been released, with the Duchess of Sussex reflecting on the challenges of being away from her children for nearly three weeks in 2022.
Speaking with "Queer Eye" star Tan France, Meghan recalled a time when she felt unwell while separated from her kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Although she did not mention the specific occasion by name, her comments appeared to reference the extended period she and Prince Harry spent in the United Kingdom following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
During their conversation in Episode 3, Meghan opened up about how motherhood has surpassed her expectations. "It's better than I ever expected," she said. She and Prince Harry are parents to Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. France and his husband, Rob, are raising two sons, Ismail, 4, and Isaac, 2.
France spoke about how much he treasures time with his children. "You know what's funny? When parents are like, 'Oh, I just can't wait for them to go to college and be out,' I'm like, I never want my children to leave," he explained. "They're not allowed to get married. Not allowed to leave my house."
Meghan agreed, sharing how strongly she feels about her own children. "I'll miss them so much. You want to be the parent who's like yes, go do it. Go do your thing. Go live that life. But I'm going to miss you so much," she shared.
France, 42, then admitted how hard it was for him to be apart from his sons even briefly. "I feel like my heart is broken," he confessed.
Meghan echoed that sentiment, revealing that the longest she had ever been away from Archie and Lilibet was nearly three weeks. "I was... not well," she recalled.
In September 2022, Meghan and Harry traveled to London from their California home for a series of charitable appearances. While they were overseas, Queen Elizabeth died at age 96.
The Sussexes had already been in Europe without their children — then ages 3 and 15 months — visiting Manchester and Germany for charity engagements. Their stay was extended after the Queen's sudden illness and death, leaving them away from Archie and Lilibet for a total of 17 days.
