
'Emily in Paris' Assistant Director Diego Borella Dies on Set
Filming of the Netflix hit series, currently in its fifth season, was underway in the wake of the Venetian native's untimely passing. Production reportedly resumed shortly after news of his death.
An assistant director on the comedy drama "Emily in Paris," Diego Borella, sadly passed away during the filming of the show on August 21, 2025, in Venice, Italy.
Borella is said to have died from an illness at the age of 47, just as he was preparing for the final take of the series at the renowned Hotel Danieli.
Medics attempted to resuscitate him, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. A Suem doctor who rushed to the scene declared his death as possibly a result of a sudden heart attack.
A spokesperson from Paramount Television Studios, who produce the show for Netflix, confirmed Borella's untimely death, adding, "Our hearts go out to the individual's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
The deceased was a Venetian professional who received training in New York, Rome, and London. His work wasn't limited to behind the scenes. Borella also worked in literature and visual arts and had recently been busy with children's stories, fairy tales, and poetry.
Following news of his passing, filming of "Emily in Paris" was suspended. However, production resumed only two days after the tragedy struck.
Actress Lily Collins, who stars as the main lead in the show, was spotted returning to the set on August 23, 2025. She was reportedly photographed on a boat alongside co-stars, Ashley Park, Paul Forman, and Eugenio Franceshini as they filmed the fifth season of the show. "Emily in Paris" is set to air on Netflix on December 18, 2025.
