In video footage shared on X, McConaughey is seen standing as Prince William and Princess Catherine entered the box — a polite gesture widely interpreted as a mark of respect for the royals. While bowing or curtsying is traditionally reserved for British citizens, etiquette experts note that international guests are not required to follow this custom.

According to the Etiquette School of New York, only British people are required to curtsy and bow to royalty, yet Americans are not required to do so.
