Meghan Markle's Fourth of July Spread Criticized by Social Media Users
A festive Instagram post by Meghan Markle showcasing her Fourth of July charcuterie board has sparked backlash online, with some social media users questioning its purpose and her public persona.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared a glimpse of her Independence Day celebration in a new video posted to her personal Instagram account. Meghan, who lives in California with Prince Harry, 40, and their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, offered followers a brief look into her family's holiday traditions.
In the short video, Meghan is seen assembling a patriotic-themed charcuterie board. She arranges watermelon, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and star-shaped cheeses to resemble the American flag. White flowers are scattered across the display as decoration.
"Red, white and blue….and easy to do! Happy 4th, friends 🇺🇸 Be safe, have fun ❤️🤍💙" she captioned her post.
In another post, she revealed that her second date with Prince Harry was on July 4, 2016, so the holiday symbolized something deeper for their family. Prince Harry gave her a cupcake that day, and now, making cupcakes has been part of their family tradition.
Despite its warm tone, the post quickly drew negative reactions from some online viewers. Several critics expressed frustration with what they saw as an overly simplistic presentation.

"Do we really need instructions on how to put food on a wooden board? This is just insulting," one commenter wrote.
Another added, "Does she understand that LOTS of people do this stuff every day?!? She is not that talented. [sic]"
Others took issue with Meghan's public role more broadly, criticizing her decision to share lifestyle content instead of pursuing causes associated with her former royal duties.
"It is amazing how someone can end up like that. She had it all and could make and give more. Sad woman," one user commented.
"Is she teaching us how to make a fruit platter? She could’ve made a difference in so many people's lives. She chose this. I will never understand," another echoed.
