Meghan Markle Addresses Viral Twerking Video in Her Latest Podcast Appearance
The Duchess of Sussex says she wants to share more of her "real self" as she reclaims her voice on social media following her and Prince Harry’s royal exit.
In an upcoming episode of "Aspire with Emma Grede," Meghan Markle opens up about the now-viral video filmed in the hospital room during Princess Lilibet's birth, marking the first time she's spoken publicly about it.
The 43-year-old Duchess discusses the candid Instagram clip, dubbed her "Baby Momma Dance, [sic]" which she shared on June 4 to celebrate Lilibet’s fourth birthday. The video, which shows her dancing with husband Prince Harry in a hospital gown, quickly went viral after it was posted.
"Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work – there was only one thing left to do! 😂," Meghan wrote in the Instagram caption.
In a preview of the podcast episode, shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Markle tells Grede that she's eager to share more of her real self with the public, a sentiment that aligns with Grede's own emphasis on authenticity.
"You have to be authentic," Meghan says. "Did you see my 'Baby Momma' dance? [sic]" she adds with a laugh.
Grede, the founding partner and chief product officer of SKIMS, as well as CEO and co-founder of Good American, responds enthusiastically: "We maybe watched it like 20 times yesterday, and I was like, is that, is that her? Is that Prince Harry there with the fingers… I was like, okay… good on Harry, let's go. But that's you, right? Like that's you in a way that we kind of haven't been able to see you before."
She continues: "And I did like a little secret cheer, cause I was like, well, that's what I kind of want to see from you. Like I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that 'I don't give a [expletive]' kind of thing."
Meghan clarifies that the video was recorded four years ago, just before Lilibet's birth, and says it serves as a reminder that her public image only reflects a portion of her life.
"That was four years ago," she explains. "So it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still a whole life – a real, authentic, fun life – that's happening behind the scenes."
She concludes, "I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms."
Markle's episode on "Aspire with Emma Grede" is set to premiere Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
