Maryland Woman Charged with Murder After Claiming 3-Year-Old Daughter Was Abducted

A 31-year-old woman and her boyfriend are facing multiple charges in connection with her daughter's death after police discovered what they believe to be the child's remains.

Darrian Randle has been arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree of child abuse resulting in death of a minor under thirteen, and other related criminal charges, Maryland State Police say.

The arrest and allegations come just a day after an AMBER Alert was issued for Randle's three-year-old daughter, Nola Dinkins. On Tuesday evening, Randle told police that her daughter had been kidnapped at gunpoint by a middle-aged white man.

She said the incident occurred on the 500 Block of Gender Road in Newark, Delaware, around 7:15 p.m. She claimed she had pulled over to calm Dinkins, when the man approached, took the child, and drove away in an SUV.

A day later, however, investigators were able to determine that Randle's report was false. The AMBER Alert was subsequently cancelled, but police continued searching for Dinkins.

At around 1:45 p.m., on Wednesday, June 11, police found human remains consistent with that of a young child in a vacant lot in North East, Maryland. "Positive identification of the remains is pending autopsy results by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore," the report states.

Randle's boyfriend, 44-year-old Cedrick Britten, was also "charged with accessory to first- and second-degree murder after the fact, failure to report child death, and other related criminal charges."

After determining that Randle's original report was false, The New Castle County Division of Police had "requested Maryland State Police to respond to Randle's last known address in North East where they made contact with Britten," the report states.

It adds, "Further investigation led to potential criminal activity, which subsequently led to the recovery of human remains in a vacant lot in North East, Maryland."

Randle is currently in police custody awaiting extradition. Britten is also in custody, waiting to be transported to Cecil County District Court for an initial appearance.
