Roseanne Barr Claims ABC 'Spied' on Her Before She Was Shown the Door
The Hollywood veteran celebrity recent revelations about her former employer came before she was involved in a tractor accident at her countryside home.
Roseanne Barr is best known for starring in the hit comedy "Roseanne" which aired from 1988 to 1997, lasting ten seasons. More than 20 years later, ABC gave it a reboot, and the actress, along with her on-screen family, returned.
However, Barr's comeback was short-lived as she was fired after her controversial tweet about former President Barack Obama's advisor, Valerie Jarrett. The comedian said the political aid looks like "Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes."
Not only was Barr shown the door, but ABC also canned the show despite its high ratings, branding her comments as "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values."
It later created the spin-off "The Connors" without her character and the show aired for seven seasons with its final episode airing in April 2025. In a recent candid interview, she claimed that the executives from the network had been paying close attention to her political beliefs:
"They were waiting for me to slip up. They spied. They monitored everything I did. They wanted to censor me from the very beginning."
"They hijacked that tweet and made out it said something that it didn't," Barr added. Meanwhile, chief executive, Bob Iger, of the Walt Disney Company, ABC's corporate parent, said at the time, "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing."
Since the debacle, Barr has retreated to Texas and has been spending much of her time outdoors. However, this has led to several injuries.
One incident involved the star mowing the property, leading to a tractor falling on top of her and trapping her underneath. Despite this, the 72-year-old continues to mow her property.
