Jimmy Kimmel Welcomes First Grandchild, Marks Rare Absence From His Show
The comedian returned to his show one day after missing an episode for only the second time in 22 years, choosing to be present for the birth of his first granddaughter.
Jimmy Kimmel is officially a grandfather after his daughter, Katie Kimmel, gave birth to her first child with husband Will Logsdon. The late-night host shared the joyful news on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" during his opening monologue on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

"We were supposed to have a show last night but we didn't, because my daughter had a baby last night," Kimmel told viewers. "So I decided to be there instead of here," the proud grandfather added.

He confirmed that the baby is healthy. In typical Kimmel fashion, he joked that the child's name was "Melania," then added, "Melania Thee Stallion."
Jokes aside, he revealed the real name of his granddaughter: Patti Joan. The middle name, he explained, was in honor of his mother, Joann.
Katie, his eldest child from his first marriage to Gina Kimmel, married Will Logsdon in 2021. In addition to Katie, Kimmel shares a son, Kevin, with his ex-wife.
The occasion marked only the second time in 22 years that Kimmel has missed a taping of his show. The first was due to an emergency appendectomy.
Kimmel returned to the show the following day, sharing his family's milestone with his audience and offering a rare glimpse into his personal life.
