American Idol Contestant Canaan James Hill Eliminated — Details
Canaan James Hill was a frontrunner with a promising future in the singing competition. In his last performance, he chose to cover one of the judges' songs.
The 23rd season of "American Idol" kicked off on March 2, 2025. Canaan was among several other talented contestants who quickly advanced and earned glowing reviews for his performances from fans and judges alike.
The 17-year-old made it to the Top 10 and on May 4 last week, the show revealed the track list each singer had to choose from, which included chart-topping songs across different genres by "Iconic Women of Music."
Canaan chose "Love Wins" by Carrie Underwood, and delivered the performance as best he could, stepping into unfamiliar territory with a love song. He also stumbled on the lyrics at one point but managed to recover.
Unfortunately, Canaan didn't advance to the next round and was eliminated alongside Kolbi Jordan. On May 6, two more aspiring stars—Mattie Pruitt and Josh King—were also sent home. The competition continues to intensify with six contestants now in the running.
Despite his elimination, Canaan continues to sing. The young artist recently shared his rendition of the "Lady in Waiting" duet challenge by Jessica Reedy. He also gave an interview where he reflected on his "American Idol" journey and what comes next for him now.
