Police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with Odunsi’s death. 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant is said to have been Odunsi's roommate for a few months before allegedly attacking her.

Just before 4 p.m. on April 26, police responded to a welfare check on the southside of Houston. They knocked on the door and received no response.

They then walked around to the back of the apartment, where they noticed bloodstains on the concrete patio. Upon entering, they found Odunsi on the kitchen floor suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found Grant in the bedroom with stab wounds and transported him to the hospital. Police suspect he had attempted to commit suicide after killing Odunsi.

In new details that have emerged, police revealed that Odunsi and Grant had argued about their cats two days before the incident—an argument that allegedly escalated and led to the attack. Grant is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 5.

Following her passing, Odunsi's family launched a GoFundMe to raise money for the funeral and other related expenses. The campaign description revealed Odunsi was just days away from graduating.

She also had a TikTok account where she shared updates about her studies. While her family’s original goal was to raise £40,000, they have collected £60,896 as of this writing.
