Barbara Eden Pulls Out of Film Festival at Last Minute Due to ‘Sudden Illness’

The "I Dream of Jeannie" icon was due to accept a career honor when word came that she wouldn't be attending after all. Just a day later, she broke her silence with an update.
Barbara Eden sparked concern over the weekend after news broke that she had withdrawn from a film festival appearance shortly before she was set to take the stage. Organizers attributed her absence to a "sudden illness."

Eden, 95, had been scheduled to appear at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday evening, September 5. "We're sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight," event organizers announced.
"Barbara is deeply regretful that she had to cancel at the last minute, as she had been very much looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating with us," they continued.
"We know how many of you were excited to welcome Barbara. We appreciate your understanding and join you in sending her our best wishes for a speedy recovery," added the Cinecon Classic Film Festival. The announcement was quickly met with a wave of well-wishes from concerned fans.
The following day, Eden turned to Instagram to reassure her followers that she was doing just fine. "It's okay everyone! I'm okay!" she wrote alongside a smiling selfie. "Oh, my goodness there has been a bit of miscommunication."
"I'm not suffering from an illness; my doctor very recently prescribed a brand-new medication that turned out to have some nasty side effects. Due to the discomfort, my doctor ordered me to remain at home until it can be sorted out," she continued.
"What awful timing for this to happen! My deepest appreciation to everyone for the concern," she added. "This is just a speedbump! I expect to be out and about as soon as I'm given the go-ahead! Again, my love and thanks to everyone for all the concern."
This year's Cinecon Classic Film Festival, which pays tribute to beloved films of the past, marked the event's 62nd edition. Held at the Landmark Nuart Theatre from Thursday, September 3, through Monday, September 7, it was also the festival's first year at that particular venue.
Eden had been set to receive the Cinecon Legacy Award during the September 5 ceremony. Other honorees at this year's festival included Nancy Kwan, Anna Maria Alberghetti and Lainie Kazan. Alberghetti, 90, was likewise unable to attend in person.

Pat Boone, 82, who co-starred with Eden in two films — 1961's "All Hands on Deck" and 1963's "The Yellow Canary" — went ahead with his own appearance as planned. He stuck around afterward to sign autographs for fans following a screening of "All Hands on Deck."
Eden remains best known for her starring turn as the title character in the 1960s sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie," which followed an astronaut who stumbles upon a bottle housing a 2,000-year-old genie.
Among her other notable credits are the TV series "Harper Valley P.T.A." and "How to Marry a Millionaire," along with film roles in "Flaming Star," "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "The Brass Bottle."
